Public policies on special education in Brazil, a brief history

This article analyzes Brazilian legislation regarding Inclusive Education and the work of the State and Brazilian society in order to enable the schooling of students with disabilities. It is a historical study based on documents and legislation, providing a brief reference to the first legal frameworks and the gradual and evolutionary process of regulating Inclusive Education in Brazil, from the 1960s to the present day. It discusses and debates the involvement of the State and social movements in ensuring access and permanence of students with special educational needs in regular schools and their subsequent integration into the social environment in which they are included. The discussion presented here focuses on the legal principles that establish the regulations addressing the inclusive process from its beginning to the present, aiming at specialized and quality educational assistance that needs to be consolidated, reaching the target audience of Special Education. In this sense, we examined documents and bibliographies related to the subject, with the objective of understanding the trajectory of the process of implementing Inclusive Education in Brazil through bibliographic and documentary research, followed by the analysis of the results of this research, which allowed us to understand the path taken to achieve inclusion in the country.
