Abstract

In Brazil, mental health care focused on the needs arising from the use of alcohol and other drugs is one of the priority areas in providing care to the homeless population. Within the Unified Health System (SUS), health services are offered through the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS), which includes specific services such as Psychosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAPS-AD), Shelters, and Street Outreach Teams. This study aimed to deepen the discussion on care and reception of users of alcohol and other drugs within the services of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS). The methodology adopted was an integrative review, considering publications in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, published between 2019 and 2025. Articles, books, dissertations, and theses related to the topic were included. The studies included in this review were obtained through electronic searches in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS, and SciELO databases. The keywords used were based on the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). A total of 20 publications dated from 2019 to 2025 were selected. It was concluded that the current scenario reveals deep contradictions: on one hand, reception and qualified listening favor psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction; on the other hand, structural weaknesses, stigma, and biomedical approaches persist, limiting the protagonism of the user.
