Abstract

Menopause causes hormonal changes that significantly affect women's physical and sexual health and quality of life. In this context, innovative therapies such as intimate laser therapy have emerged as alternatives. This study aimed to analyze the effects of intimate laser therapy on genital rejuvenation and female well-being during menopause. This is an integrative literature review conducted in October 2025 through searches of the PubMed, BVS, and Web of Science databases using Boolean operators [("intimate laser" OR "vaginal laser" OR "CO2 laser") AND ("menopause" OR "climacteric") AND ("vaginal rejuvenation" OR "genitourinary syndrome") AND ("quality of life" OR "well-being")]. Of the 685 studies initially identified, 12 articles were selected for analysis after careful screening. The results demonstrate that laser therapy promotes effective genital rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production and mucosal vascularization. This process restores tissue thickness, elasticity, and lubrication, significantly alleviating symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM), such as vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse (dyspareunia). This physiological revitalization directly impacts women's well-being. The reduction of physical symptoms leads to significant improvements in sexual function and satisfaction. Consequently, a positive impact on psychosocial well-being is observed, with increased self-esteem and confidence. However, two placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials did not demonstrate the superiority of laser therapy over sham treatment, indicating a strong placebo effect and raising questions about the actual magnitude of the benefit. It is concluded that intimate laser therapy is a promising technology that, through tissue rejuvenation, improves physical symptoms and promotes comprehensive well-being (sexual and psychological). However, its high cost and the need for further long-term evidence are factors that should be considered.
