Highlighting the materialization of miracles through ex-votos at the São Francisco Cultural Center

The main objective of this internship was to disseminate knowledge about the symbolism that constitutes ex-votos, in which I had the opportunity to participate in guided research on their importance for the faithful who attend the Penha pilgrimage, held annually in the city of João Pessoa - PB. This pilgrimage is a religious manifestation in which countless devotees gather to praise Our Lady of Penha, and one of the customs of the pilgrims who participate in this religious event is the creation and offering of ex-votos, which are part of a ritual practice in which these objects serve the purpose of materially representing the blessings and miracles achieved by them. Therefore, at the end of this internship period, within the field of the São Francisco Cultural Center, my classmates and I had the opportunity to participate in the creation of a public exhibition with ex-voto pieces selected from the Chapel of Miracles, located in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Penha. The exhibition presented visitors with the history behind these objects and their relationship with the materialization of miracles achieved by the faithful who attend the pilgrimage annually, making this cultural practice known to the entire population in order to prevent this tradition from being lost over time.
